1/29/17 - Membership message
Attached is a memo Sally Johnston, Eastern Div. Membership Chair with our division standing and Membership plan information from National.
Please read the document for important information about the “challenge” set forth by National Membership Chair Martha.
“I am issuing a Challenge to each division/dept. to reach their goal in 18 weeks, before Memorial Day. In each division, every dept. that is goal will be put into a drawing to win a special "Poppy" item valued over $50. Upon drawing that dept., the winning dept. will then hold a drawing of their units that reached their goal by the same date and that unit will get the prize. The prize will not go to the dept. membership chm but to a unit.”
Dept. of MA needs 2,123 to reach 100%, and with approximately 24 weeks left in the fiscal year, so we need 89 membership dues per week to reach 100%. Average membership sent in over the past 19 weeks is 218, which is tracking above the stated plan challenge. If we continue on this path, we could potentially end up at 13 over our 100% goal.
Also attached is the Numeric Goals spreadsheet as of 18 January.
I created 2 additional tabs in the worksheet, “By State,” and “Division Rank.”
Dept. of MA is currently in 6th place out of 12 for the Eastern Division, at 66.99%,
By State ---Dept. of MA is 21st out of 52
Division Rank –Dept. of MA is 2nd out 5 Divisions
The average of all divisions is 66.69%; Eastern Division is 68.89%, and Dept. of MA is 66.99%, so we are tracking slightly above the average at both the state and Division level.
Everyone is working hard and it shows. Keep up the good work and we will get there!
MOST IMPORTANT ------- As of January 6, 2017, the email address for the Department of MA is email@example.com. Please make adjustments in your contact information.

Hello Ladies of the ALA Eastern Division! I just wanted to take a moment to send out a PRAISE shout
out to the Departments of the District of Columbia, Maryland and New York! Way to go!!!
The membership reports indicate your membership numbers are higher than
they were this time last year. If you
are doing something new that works --- please share with our other Departments! I know all of our Departments are working hard on
membership. And, there are many that are
very close to last year’s numbers. Keep
up the good work and please encourage all of your members to work
membership. It is not just our
Membership Chairmen’s job to work on recruiting, rejoining and rejuvenating
members. Public Relations work is important to membership. Encourage your units to take pictures every
time they get together to work on any program – delivering food to the food
bank, children’s parties, putting together packages to send to the troops away
from home, juniors meeting and working on projects, etc. Ask them to send those pictures to their
local newspaper, along with a brief explanation of what the ALA is doing. Their new members come from the communities in
which they live and, who knows, maybe their existing members will see the
pictures and articles in the paper and feel renewed PRIDE in the American
Legion Auxiliary. Who knows? Eastern Division Membership Chairman, Sally Johnston, is
working with your Department Membership Chairmen. If your Membership Chairman asks you for
assistance please do what you can for her.
We are here to help also.
If there is anything Sally or I can do to help you we are just an email
or phone call away. Patti Lach, Eastern Division Nation VPpattiwmd@yahoo.com301-662-7071 (h) or 240-626-4034 (c) Sally Johnston, Eastern Division Membership Chairmanalasallyjohnston@gmail.com
