A: If your relative who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibility dates and is a member of The American Legion, you may join the American Legion Auxiliary of The American Legion.
However, if the qualifying veteran is deceased you may join the appropriate organization, even if the qualifying veteran was not a member of The American Legion when living.In order to join the Auxiliary, you must be a veteran or the mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter or step relative of a veteran living or deceased who has served in the United States Armed Forces during the listed war eras

April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918 World War I
Dec. 7, 1941 to August 15, 1945 Merchant Marines (only eligibility)
Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 World War II
June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 Korea
Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 Vietnam
April 24, 982 to July 31, 1984 Grenada/Lebanon
Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990 Panama
Aug. 2, 1990 to today
